CamelThese feral camels are one of the two species of camel in Australia along with bactrian camels. They were introduced from the India and Palestine, to help with inland travel. The camels are very suited to Australian deserts, they are one humped. The camels can go without water for a long time, they eat 325 out of the 350 plant species found in Australian deserts. They have large feet for walking on soft sand, going where vehicles could not travel. Although these camels opened up the inland area, there has been major development with transport and the camels were no longer of use therefore were set free. As they were suited to the inland conditions they thrived and now have become a nuisance to cattle and aboriginal communities.
